Thinking about using a .xyz domain?
Think again. Or just don’t.
We used picoapps.xyz for Pico the AI no code builder and we’ve run into nothing but trouble:
GMail seems to think all .xyz domains are spammy. When we started sending out emails from a .com domain instead, we saw our open rates improve by an order of magnitude.
Adblock appears to block websocket connections to .xyz domains from non-xyz domains. We allow Pico users to host their apps on their own domains and I noticed that user apps that use websockets to connect to our backend would no longer work. We’ve also had numerous reports of Pico not working for people running Adblock.
I imagine .xyz also has an impact on SEO.
So for all these reasons, just use a .com and find other ways to be hip.
